How to get to Valdidentro

By car

Valdidentro is about 210 km from Milan.

Coming from Milan take the state road n. 36 up to Colico, along a fairly fast road that is mostly in the tunnel; then continue along the state road n. 38 which leads to Valtellina.

Those coming from central or southern Italy, or more generally from the A1 motorway can choose two alternative routes, depending on whether they decide to visit Valdidentro in winter or summer.

In summer: motorway A22 Modena-Bolzano; highway Bolzano-Merano; Merano – Spondigna; Passo dello Stelvio (open from mid-May to the end of October), Bormio, Valdidentro.

In winter: at Verona, A4 Turin-Venice motorway towards Turin; Brescia West exit for Lago d’Iseo; ss 56 up to Edolo; Passo dell’Aprica, Tirano, Bormio, Valdidentro.

Throughout the year, however, it is possible to reach Milan and then continue towards Lecco-Sondrio (see above), a route that could be longer in terms of km, but shorter in terms of time.

Coming from Austria, during the winter season the most advantageous route passes through Landeck, Martina, Zernez (Switzerland), La Drossa Tunnel, Livigno; Passo del Foscagno, Valdidentro.
In summer, coming from the same area, you can choose between Landeck, Passo Resia, Malles Venosta, Passo dello Stelvio, Bormio, Valdidentro.

Attention: the Stelvio Pass is at an altitude of 2758 m, at the foot of the glacier; it often snows even in summer and the road surface can be difficult to walk without snow chains or tires.

By train

By train the nearest station is Tirano (about 35 km from Valdidentro).

The connections with Milan, Central Station and Garibaldi Station, are numerous every day and almost every train finds coincidence with the Perego line buses for Bormio and Valdidentro.

By plane

For those who choose to travel by plane, the nearest airports are Milan (Malpensa or Linate), Bergamo (Orio al Serio), Innsbruck, Zurich.

The only airport that offers the possibility of easy connections with Bormio and Valdidentro is Milan. From both airports there is a shuttle service to the central station, from where many direct trains depart daily to Valtellina.

By bus

During high season the Perego bus company provides a direct Milan-Bormio connection service.
More generally, all year round buses cover the Sondrio-Tirano-Bormio and Bormio-Valdidentro sections.
